Yellow Stone Country Oak 7.5" Engineered Hardwood by Earthwerks is a 1/2" thick floor. This beautiful European white oak is lightly wire brushed and stained with a process called TuffSheild. So, TuffShield patented technology delivers a high-gloss finish, engineered to withstand harsh environments. This creates a dimensional visual with a modern, yet subtle tone. So, what is engineered hardwood? Engineered hardwood has multiple layers of plywood or MDF positioned in different directions. However, the construction of engineered hardwood is different among manufacturers. As a result, each layer is what gives it durable, high-performance quality. Consequently, the layered construction prevents the hardwood from warping and bowing. Especially in humid areas. Therefore, the advantage over solid wood is that the construction allows for installation in most homes.
Hardwood Installation
Engineered hardwood floors can be installed in several different ways. The most popular is float it, which means putting a pad underneath it. Or you can glue it down. Both have their advantages. Gluing down a floor makes it sound denser with little to no noise like high heels. But it is harder on the feet and harder to remove if you ever want to change it. Floating requires a pad under it.
