Stockton Stainmaster Luxury Vinyl Tile is a glue-down product.  This 18″ x 18″ tile mimics natural stone.  It has an overall thickness of 4 mm with a 12 mil wear layer.  So, what is a wear layer?  The wear layer helps your floor last longer. The wear layer is a clear PVC film that is applied to the photographic layer of your floor.  For example, if you rolled around your floor on a desk chair, the wear layer is what is protecting your floor from wearing down to the color.   The wear layer adds an extra boost of durability and extends the life of your vinyl flooring.  As you may have guessed the thicker the wear layer the tougher the flooring will be.

If you love the texture of real hardwood floors you will want a floor that is Embossed in Register.  Embossed in Register is a relatively new technology.  The embossing process adds ultimate realism to the look and texture of natural wood or stone material.  To achieve this, during the heating process, the manufacturers use a special plate to integrate into the wear layer.  This gives it not only texture but the graining as well.
