However, the construction of engineered hardwood is different among manufacturers. In this case, the core is made with an HDF core.  HDF core is compressed tiny wood particles such as recycled sawdust with an eco-friendly resin.   If you take a piece of regular engineered hardwood and the same size piece of MDF core hardwood and weigh it your MDF would weigh a lot more.  In other words, it weighs more because the compressed particles create a very dense product giving it superior stability.  Therefore, the advantage of engineered over solid wood is that the construction allows for installation in most homes.

The veneer is the top layer.
