What Is Vinyl Plank Flooring & What Are Its Benefits?

Vinyl plank flooring is a type of luxury vinyl flooring that looks like hardwood floors. It comprises thin, flexible sheets of vinyl product printing with a wood grain pattern.

Click-lock vinyl flooring is durable and easy to install and maintain. It is also more affordable than real hardwood floors.

The benefits of vinyl plank flooring include:

          • Easy DIY installation.
          • It is durable and easy to maintain.
          • It is more affordable than hardwood floors.
          • It comes in a variety of colors and styles.

          DIY Click-Lock Vinyl Flooring Installation

#1 Purchase Quality Vinyl Flooring from a Reputable Company

When shopping for click-lock vinyl flooring, choosing a quality product from a reputable company is vital. At the 99 Cent Floor Store, we offer a wide range of high-quality vinyl plank flooring types at affordable prices.

These types of flooring come with a durable wear layer for resistance to scratches, scuffs, and stains, making them great for any room in your home.

You can shop online or in our store to find your home’s perfect click-lock vinyl plank flooring.

#2 Take Your Time Planning & Prepping for the Project

It is important to acclimate your vinyl plank flooring to the room before installing it. Luxury vinyl flooring consists of PVC, which expands and contracts with temperature changes. If you do not acclimate the flooring, it may expand or contract too much and cause the planks to buckle or snap.

To acclimate the vinyl plank flooring, unroll it in the room where you plan to install it and leave it there for at least 48 hours. Do not install the flooring in a room below 60 degrees or above 85 degrees.

You then need to determine the direction you want your flooring planks to run in. Ideally, the planks should run parallel to the longest wall in the room. This length will create a more cohesive look in the finished product.

Now is an excellent time to remove existing baseboards or quarter-round and repair any damages to the subfloor. Fill in any cracks or holes with wood filler or caulk. If there are any high spots, sand them down so the floor is level.
Next, tape quarter-inch spacers along the wall’s perimeter to create a half-inch expansion gap. This step will ensure that you correctly space the planks from the edge of the wall throughout the installation.

#3 Start Your First Row of Click-Lock Vinyl

After preparing your subfloor and choosing the direction of your flooring, you are ready to start installing your vinyl plank flooring.

Start by finding the wall that is most perpendicular to the direction of your flooring planks; this will be your starting wall. Measure the room’s width and divide it by the width of the vinyl plank flooring. This math will tell you how many planks you need to cut for your first row.

Cut the planks using a saw or utility knife. If you use a utility knife, score the vinyl plank several times before snapping it in half.

Once you cut the planks to size, dry-fit them into place. You should lay the planks down first without attaching them to the floor. This guide will help determine if you need to make any adjustments before installing the vinyl plank flooring.

If everything looks good, begin locking the planks into place and press down firmly. Continue this process until the first row is complete.

#4 Continue Laying Your Vinyl Planks

Now that you have installed the first row of click-lock vinyl plank flooring, you can start working on the rest of the floor.

Once you have established your starting point, the rest of the process is pretty easy. Simply dry-fit the rest of the vinyl plank flooring to ensure every piece fits smoothly.

Then begin to lock the planks into place and press them down firmly. Be sure to use a level to check that the planks are smooth and even as you go. Continue this process until you have installed all of your luxury vinyl planks.

          #5 The Finishing Touches

Check your work by closely examining the floor for areas that may need an adjustment.

You’ll want to pay close attention to the seams between the planks to ensure they are correctly locked together and all lay smoothly on the subfloor.

Remove the spacers between the wall parameter and the plank ends, apply caulk into the gaps, and install quarter-round/shoe molding around the edge of the room. This molding will give your room a finished look.

          – And just like that, you can now enjoy your new luxury vinyl flooring!
